Banana liqueuur cocktails: Tropical liqueuers

Banana liquor, the alcoholic beverage created by the fruit of the banana tree, is made by combining bananas, water, sugar and cinnamon.

This recipe is the perfect way to take a tropical liqueuer and create a delicious cocktail that can be enjoyed on its own, over ice, or with a beverage.

Banana Liqueur Cocktail Ingredients 1-3 ounces gin, rum, or brandy (for a tropical cocktail) 1/4 cup sugar 1/2 cup lemon juice (freshly squeezed) 1-1/2 teaspoons cinnamon 1/8 teaspoon lemon zest 1 cup ice cubes (optional) Instructions Fill a small saucepan with water and bring to a boil over medium heat.

Once boiling, lower the heat and let it simmer for about five minutes.

Remove from heat and stir in the lemon juice and cinnamon (if using).

Return the heat to a low boil, cover, and let the mixture simmer for two minutes.

Meanwhile, place the gin and rum in a small bowl and stir until combined.

Return to a simmer and let sit for at least five minutes, stirring occasionally, before adding the ice cubes.

Remove the ice and stir into the gin mixture.

If you are using a cocktail glass, add the ice to the bottom of the glass and pour the ice onto the gin.

If using a pitcher, add about half the liquid from the gin to the pitcher.

If not using a vessel, add enough ice to fill it to the rim of the pitcher, and then add another quarter of the liquid to the glass.

Serve with ice cubes for garnish.

Recipe Notes *If using a liqueuring apparatus, make sure the cocktail is chilled to below 4 degrees F. The more sugar you add, the more tart the liqueured fruit.

This will make the cocktail drinkable.
